Trousers Drafting Fundamentals - Specialist Course

This course is designed for aspiring individuals looking to acquire a specialty in the tailoring industry, focusing on bespoke trousers drafting. Through learning the fundamental basics before moving to highly specialised advance trousers drafting. Having a strong fundamental allows for a smooth and efficient ascension to a higher level, eventually adopting a specialty in this area that will allow them to transition smoothly into the industry.

Min/Max Participants: 4 - 6 Individuals.

Course Fees: THB 52,000.

13 Sessions: 1 hours 45mins+ per session. (Twice each week in the evenings)

Course and Tools Requirement: English language proficiency. Tailor L-ruler, tailor curve ruler, straight ruler (minimum 18 inches in length). Notebook for notes-taking. Further information on tools will be provided prior to commencement of course.

Course materials provided:

  1. Drafting Paper.

  2. Cutting Fabric.

  3. Drafting Chalk.

Course Overview:

  1. Measurement System and development of standard trousers front-panel.

  2. Development of standard trousers back panel and pleated front-panel.

  3. Course Assessment for front & back trousers panel development.

    Individual pattern review and refine.

  4. Laying drafts on fabric, and fabric length calculation.

    Cutting & marking for prototype build.

  5. Prototype making for live fitting session.

  6. Live fitting, and identifying issues.

  7. Understanding of anatomy & posture. Learning principles of ‘FIBO’ - Anatomical Theory developed by Alexander K.

  8. Re-development of front trousers panel. Front panel VS front anatomy & posture relationship study.

  9. Re-development of back panel. Back panel VS back anatomy & posture relationship study.

  10. Course Assessment for full bespoke trousers development. Post-assessment pattern review & refine.

  11. Laying draft and cutting on fabric. Building prototype for live fitting.

  12. Live fitting, and identifying issues, pattern-grading & refining.

  13. Build for prototype part II. Live fitting part II. Revisit course content.

    Industry Q&A & ‘how to move forward?’.

Course Objectives:

  • At the end of the course, you will be able to develop bespoke trousers pattern for various male body type. Post-course consultation support will be provided.

  • Receive a certificate for full course completion endorsed by The Cutting Room and a cut-length fabric for your next trousers project.

  • 8 Sessions of post-course consultation support will be provided.
